Election what ifs...?
Here's an article
with some screwball hypothetical situations that aren't totally out of the realm
of possibility for this freaky election. It's possible the Florida legislature
and the Florida Supreme Court will end up butting heads when it comes time pick
a slate of electors. In that case, it goes to Congress, but it goes on Jan.
6 when the new, nicely split Congress is in place. The House would go to Bush
while the Senate would presumably split 50-50.
But wait! Who's the tie-breaker in the Senate? Al Gore, who's still VP on Jan.
6! Which leaves the two halves of Congress split!
At this point, the matter is supposed to be resolved by the governor of the
state, which in this case is... Jeb Bush! But if George Jr.'s little bro recuses
himself, then all hell breaks loose because there is no resolution and
the U.S. becomes rudderless, without direction and without a leader, a swirling
mass of drooling couch-potatoes brain dead from too much election coverage.
