DWP sucks!
Warning: Rant follows.
DWP must be run by a bunch of morons. Can I sign up with someone else to provide
me with power?
I call to switch the power bill to my name at the beginning of February. Guy
says, "Done deal." (At the time, we didn't have separate meters so
this is impossible, but I didn't know that...)
Mid-February, I get a call from the apartment manager's office saying to switch
the power bill to my name. What the hell?
I call up DWP. They can't find any record of my apartment in their system.
"Your apartment doesn't exist." Uh-huh. So I call the manager and
tell them there's a problem with the DWP records. The manager says, "No.
They're lazy. Call them again and tell them to look harder. We put in the meters
a couple days ago."
I call up DWP for the third time and get a guy who says my apartment isn't
in their system. "Well, look harder. Call your supervisor. Do something."
After a while, he figures it out, "Oh. It's here in the second system."
"Great," I say. "Switch me over, baby!"
"Can't do it. I can't access that system." Like it's something
special. After a lot of hot air about what to do next, he says, "Don't
worry, I'll put in a comment on this order, so that once it does switch
to our main system, it'll be put in your name. Case closed."
I was skeptical. I asked him, "Are you sure?" Of course he was. After
all, the conversation was being recorded for quality assurance purposes. "Are
you sure?" I asked again. "I don't want to have to call back again
when they end up shutting off my power because this order doesn't go through."
He assures me that's the last I'll ever hear of it.
I get a letter today from DWP. Tomorrow they shut off my power.
