Daypop

I guess it's time to launch Daypop. I've been holding off on this since there is still so much to do, but I think it's important to just get this site out there.

Daypop searches news sites and weblogs on a daily basis. The idea for Daypop came with the realization that Google (at the time) was not indexing certain sites frequently enough. Most pages took more than a month to make it into the search results. While it looks like Google has fixed this problem recently -- indexing weblogs almost daily -- I figure there is still some value to be had from a search engine that can limit its search to weblogs only, and also limits its search to news and journals that are current.

While Daypop started off different, over time it came to resemble Google in a lot of ways... Kudos to Google for creating such an excellent search engine and for the kick-in-the-ass-that-I-needed to launch Daypop. Check it out and give me some feedback. I'll be starting work on Daypop Version 2.0 soon.

Time to release this baby into the world!

Back to square one?

What happened to your cell fish? Nice and clean though, is there extra spacing between the letters or is is my imagination?

Unless you intended this way

I can't really make a visual distinction between weblog and news. I see the little tag but it's really close in color and I can't see the little w and n unless I blow it up.

The cell fish

I got too lazy. Maybe you and AT can help me work on that later. I just wanted to launch this thing. The DAYPOP isn't even an image. I guess this is the no-logo logo...

I'm using Trebuchet for the font which gives the lines and letters more space. I experimented with a bunch of different color combinations for the (w) and the (n) but I could never quite get them to equally stand out and be visually distinctive without being too distracting.

Neat

This is cool even if it does sound like a N'Sync/Britney Spears song rather than a search engine. Maybe you could sell the domain name... Too bad it's not 1999 when I bet this name would be worth something.

google

Google does only crawl a small number of weblogs on a daily base.

check http://sexandsunshine.blogspot.com for more observations concerning Google.

I read the comments

on Google at

http://sexandsunshine.blogspot.com

and it does seem pretty strange, whatever is going on with Google's cache. How the hell are the September archive links on the August page?
