Daypop Top 40

I'm opening up the Daypop Top 40 to the world today. It's a list of the Top 40 currently popular links, as determined by the weblogging community (well, at least the ones that are indexed by Daypop). The list gets updated every six hours and the ranking of a link is based on the number of recent occurences of the link in weblogs. It's a quick way to find out what other webloggers are talking about. There's more information about it on the Daypop weblog. Be sure to click on the orange icon for each link to see who cited the link and what they said about it.

Why top 40?

I just realized I only got around to clicking the top two!

Wouldn't Letterman be kinda long winded if he had a top 40 list?

I like it though, I like everything the SEARCH MACHINE does!!!

Scope? Culture?

Since I'm basically clueless on web logs and such, I'm wondering what kind of scope this Top 40 list represents.

In other words how much of the internet population is represented by this list? Is it representative of all people that use certain search engines or sites? Or is it regional like mostly Californians?

I'm just wondering who is represented in the culture that ends up creating this list. Is it even possible to know?

Thanks,

Mr. Curious.

Good point

It's hard to determine exactly what the weblogging population represents demographically. Location wise (and this is just my impression), the ones that are in the Daypop index so far are mostly from the United States, along with sizeable German and Dutch groups. I'm still adding weblogs into the index and other continents are starting to get representation. Brazil, Asia, and the rest of Europe are all gaining. Ultimately, I'll support the Asian languages so Daypop will be more international in scope.

The only thing that people who cite the links that make it into the Top 40 have in common is all of them love sharing what they find on the net.

Surf around. There are some really excellent weblogs out there.
