Sepilok is the site of the only Orangutan Rehabilitation
Center in Sabah. Every day, there are two feeding times when
the semi-wild apes swing in from the jungle on to the feeding
platforms. It feels more like a zoo than anything else before
and during the feeding, but if you wait until everyone else
leaves, you might get a surprise visit from curious Orangutans.

If you get to the Center early, the monkeys and apes will
most likely be lounging around on the tourist platform,
posing for the cameras. This is a good time to get some
guaranteed up-close pictures of these animals. Unfortunately,
there's a mob of tourists at this time. As soon as feeding
time comes, the apes all swing over to the feeding platform
which is far enough away that you'll have to have a zoom
lens to take any shots.
Once the food runs out, the apes all zip off into the jungle
and the park attendants try and get everyone to move on
and leave, but officially you can stay. I hung around for
a while and soon enough, a couple of the Orangutans came
back to check me out.

Sepilok B&B is down the road from the Sepilok Junction
and then definitely more than 100 meters (even though the
sign says 100 meters) down a side street. I arrived at night
and just headed to the brightest lights. That's Sepilok B&B.
Talk to the owner of the place. He's got some stories to
tell...
