So i'm going to be moving yet again, house hunting procedures have begun. Unlike most other times in Santa Fe i'll have till the end of June to find something. That's a comfort at least.

While i'm at it, here's some appropriate music for the deal.

If these men approached you in the street you’d probably reckon they were off to a masquerade ball or street fete somewhere right? Nicht- they’re Swiss guards!
Watch out for their pocket knives, yo.

I have some very fond memories of fainting goats on an old friend’s uncles’ farm. They would also spit grapes if you feed them enough.

Well e discovered the above site where you can watch footage of these fantastic spastic goats in action…er…or inaction as the case may be. Well anyway- they’re my favorite kind of goats- just don’t call them mutton.

A style of beadmaking called hieshi (say: He-She). Needless to say I was confused when one of the bead ladies tried to tell me about it. I had been asking about a necklace I saw someone wearing in onyx, coral (or jasper), and turquoise cylindrical beads.

Pope Pope Pope

I was drinking some coffee at the Blue Corn Cafe, reading the front page story of the paper about how a Pope had not yet been chosen (see I’ve been hoping for a cardinal from Africa to be elected). From there I read a subsequent story about the rumors that are flying around the Vatican about the various cardinals up for pope-hood and their pasts. The article has a picture of the German cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, with the caption to the effect of ‘part of Hitler Youth, part of the Nazi army, fled in 1944.’ And then I look up at the TV to find the same bloke as pictured in the paper on the screen, except the screen said ‘NEW POPE CHOSEN, BENEDICT THE XVI’

Well there go my hopes for a black pope, anyone want to bet on how long this guy is going to live?

...Wait a minute. The new pope was a NAZI. Let's have this sink in for a bit...

I do understand being part of Hitler Youth wasn’t a choice in Nazi Germany, and indeed this is the line of explanation he gave about all of his service at the time. But guarding a BMW plant isn’t the toughest thing to get out of. And defecting in 1944? If you could defect then, you could have defected in 1940- he did end up as a POW for the rest of the war at an American camp folks.
Mark my words, there will be many bar jokes to follow for many years about all of this.

Speaking of popes, here’s A list of the popes and their names. Actually entertaining in a way. Some highlights of fabulous pope names include ‘Blessed Innocent’ and ‘Urban’, or how about ‘Martin’, ‘Leo’, or ‘Sylvester’? Seriously. At least we’re off the John/Paul kick.

I couldn’t find stats on the average age of popes when elected, or the average life expectancy once they ARE elected. I think they should get hazard pay all in all.

Today in town I saw the infamous group of French summer bikers. I hadn’t believed they existed when an ex roommate first told me about them. But there they were today browsing in the mall, complete with their authentic leather Harley jackets and their French loafers and French ejaculation at merchandise they passed by. They were all middle-aged men and women, all familiar with one another. Lord. French bikers. *snickers*

Update on the creative projects.

My comic script about the two Santa Fe cops admitting their love for one another was well received by an actual cop, who said the use of 10- codes and city codes was tight and correct. Score. Reality checked and squared for this one.

My mini is going to the Alternative Press Expo with our devoted local comic shop boy, Jett. Lucky bastich.

I’m mulling over the 1001 Arabian Knights tale I wish to retell, set in 1985 Brunei, as well as the Martha Stewart in jail parody. I must buy leftover easter peeps for the WWII re-enactment.

This month will be a research month- just as soon as I pay my late fees at Video Library :o\ Maybe I could call in a favor from the workers there from my old pizza delivery days… I would give Blue Moon a go but they’re collection is almost completely VHS (all the good old stuff that the Vid doesn’t have) and I still don’t own a TV set. It’s almost become a point of pride. I have no car...I have no TV... whenever did being disenfranchised become pride worthy? Oh...yes...college. Right.

You know, tiger formula is available. You can actually make it from scratch with some not too hard to find ingredients. I would say this is preferable in this situation- as the cubs will still need to milk when there starting to grow in MEAT EATTING TEETH and human babies are not the carnivors tigers are.

I hope they put something acceptable like 'battle mace' on their registry list. Silly Asatru kids in love.

Banksy, british renegade activist/artist. I see little stensil thing like his outdoor works (though not so grand and daring) all over Santa Fe.

Warriors and how you make them.

While cashing my paycheck I stood in line behind an older Navaho marine. He was in full dress uniform, badges, embroidered hat and jacket with a long black ponytail falling behind him. An elderly woman come up to him and began conversing about how she had worked in a code breaking room during WWII to earn some cash for college, and how she admired him, and was pleased to see him etc. It turns out he was in dress uniform for some movie or tv thing that’s being shot here involving native people in the armed forces. He was playing a commander I think. After they had finished their conversation she turned to me and said, “His people were some of the bravest in the war. Maybe not very smart but so very brave.” To which I responded, “I know.”

But I dwelt on the ‘not very smart’ bit, my paycheck in hand as the Navaho warrior cashed a check ahead of me. I mean really- if all of your civilization, each and every group of it, had gotten utterly screwed over once by an invading peoples, I don’t think you’d let it happen again by whatever means you could muster. Or at least, you may not want to live to see that happening in the end. What war is smart anyway? It’s all so beyond reason and rationality it’s incomprehensible to me. I figure it’s better to be brave and stupid than smart and cowardly. Or, at least, I like to think I’d be that way if faced with the same situation.

Can you breed warriors without having war? I think struggle and challenge may be all you actually need. After all, we should know by now warriors shouldn’t be made specifically for wars. Its been too long for me to care or believe what the US military says in those sleek adds for college, and that’s the major reason I’ve never joined.

In other words, it comes as no surprise to me that there were only 16 Spartans left when the Romans decided to visit on their tour of empire expansion.

Yesterday at work.

Read the Santa Fe phonebook at work and watched everyone parade their rides around the plaza. That should give you an idea of how dead this Sunday was and how much my brain was not working (thank you sinuses). There are some things in the phone book I wouldn’t have expected this town to come up with.

I saw a guy on harley with a pet chihuahua along for the ride. The chihuahua was siting on the gas tank that had a sheepskin lying on top of it. The dog had a little leather cap on and sunglasses, and a holster that connected him to the driver, much to the amusement of many tourists passing by. Also spotted a sweet 1945 Harley bopper fully restored with an electrical wiring setup. I like that old style so much more than the new ones that all look like one another. The rebel happens to share the same fender style, single down front tube, etc, with the old harleys. But much like my rebel, the bopper is a bar hopping, get around town kind of bike. They’re just not built for the highway haul. One day I’ll find the right highway bike for me…

There was a lady wearing a Zozobra t-shirt. On the front it said ‘got gloom?’ on the back it had, ‘BURN HIM’. Very to the point of the whole tradition.

I’d like to do the 24 hour comic this year, but on the wed/thurs before the event as I actually have those days off. I want to incorporate rubber stamps into mine, and perhaps some phonebook clippings but I can’t seem to find anyone with a collection of stamps willing to have me borrow them, or a cheap enough deal on e-bay. Sigheth.

Googling my dinner

Step 1: acquire leftovers from your own party, many of which you have no idea how to cook

Step 2: go to google, enter these items into the search line

Step 3: receive recipes that match the ingredients you have

Step 4: browse, pick one, and follow directions

The drink can be fabulous but it’s just not enjoyable after you burn your tongue.

I got the recipe for the 'Mayan Gold' hot chocolate though. There was a reason they didn't let the women drink it back in the day of choco libations. Tehehehe.

You are now entering the geek zone

I didn’t know you could get amateur radio operator license plates. I guess they have to be on a car with a huge ass antenna though. So talking on a ham radio doesn’t count as talking on a cell phone?

So e found this cat food for the animals and shared the label with me. If you know how much I like turducken, you'll know how much I was tempted to eat the stuff myself. Just look at the ingredients. That sounds like fine turducken to me! And so what if it comes in a can, it's still turducken damn it.
Lucky cats...
