caio caio

Alright alright. I'm off to Italy again- via NYC and points between Marseilles and Berlin. Excited and tired by/about it all.
Barring the enivitable happening sooner than expected, or other natural disasters- i'll be back Oct. 26th. Till later fellows!

…that say they want and then can’t handle…

"What a strange world it is where you can have as much sex as you like but love is taboo. I’m talking about the real thing, the grand passion, which may not allow affection or convenience or happiness." – The Powerbook, Jeanette Winterson.

Did you ever have a lover that you felt totally alone with? Not being alone together but alone while with them. In a quiet moment where you weren’t pretending to do anything or be occupied by anything else and the fact you were together. You are alone in your skin and being, no matter how much you fucked or how much you loved. It happens at that point when you stopped pretending to be anyone or anything and were only yourself with them, feeling yourself. Love is lonely really, though I see so few people admit this and no common acknowledgement of this even being a possibility let alone the case. I can’t deny it’s something I’ve felt repeatedly though. The only sense I can make of the reoccurrence of this feeling in certain instances is that it is true. I miss feeling that truth of life as intensely as in those alone moments alone with someone.

Meet you in Manhattan, See you in NYC. I won't call it The Big Apple cuz they'll probably kill me.

Jennifer and i are now officially trend setters. We've made a lunch date over the phone while both in Santa Fe for Manhattan next week. I'm highly amused by this.

Chase was trying to tell me there are three Japanese rope bondage masters (i checked it out- he wasn't joking). I was struck simply by the fact that there ARE professional rope bondage masters. I mean what a way to make a living! If anyone was going to have masters of rope bondage though, I trust it to the Japanese.

Your weekend update

I got adopted by a very nice kitten on Friday. Über cuteness ensued.

My personal 'Fiesta' bender is at an end. I lost count. We did finish the French Absinthe. It was better than the Czech one on taste. Certainly not as strong and certainly not wormwood containing though. Just in time for me to actaully get my shit together for the trip and have a day of rest.

New acquisitions include a belt i made and a new buckle, the jeans i wanted, this knife (M16-13Z), this convenient oil drain (no more sideways spurting hot oil i have to guess the trajectory of!), and other assorted sundries for the trip.

Albuquerque people are odd. I was ridding in my leathers at night there and was hollered and whistled at by several cars. There was even a couple in a pick up truck who actually bothered to yell at me 'Excuse me, are you female?' and wanted an answer. Weird.

I found my 'French Quarter New Orleans' t-shirt i got when i was there and 10 years old. It's a little tighter these days but i'm wearing it with pride and sadness.

More than anything else in Italy I’m really looking forward to the big buffalo mozzarella salads (you can only get it here at the restaurant Osteria D'Assisi in the spring) with sumptuous olive oil. Not to mention the hearty soups and Tuscan game meat.

Useless pop knowledge

So did anyone else know that in the NIN music video of ‘The Perfect Drug’ Trent does the absinthe ritual and drinks the stuff down, however he doesn’t do it correctly.

And wow! Did you see Cathy Opie and her photo work in the background of the Six Feet Under Episode where Claire’s having her art school show?? Nifty!

What *fiesta*?

Working fiesta makes fiesta the worst event the entire year. I did console myself with wandering around after work for a bit watching up close and personal as about 10,000 people were in various degrees of intoxication all over down town. Overall getting hit on by drunk people all night long while working security just did not put me in a good mood. I couldn’t stand the thought of having a drink under those circumstances so I tottled home.

One more goodbye than i'd like

It’s been a week since John and Annie drove back to the east coast. All their possession crammed in their two trucks, Puk along for the ride while Pierce and Jessica drove the white benz. I know in my heart I’ll see them again and I know it was much more good than bad for them to move even if it was tough all round, but- you know. Good people being close to you is a hard thing to let go of. Particularly when the place you are in seems to be losing a lot of these such people.

Recent readings that are sticking:

"These nights were secret, and of the whole summer they were the most important time. In the dark she walked by herself and it was like she was the only person in town. Almost every street came to be as plain to her in the nighttime as her own home block. Some kids were afraid to walk through strange places in the dark, but she wasn’t. Girls were scared a man would come out from somewhere and put his teapot in them like they was married. Most girls were nuts. If a person the size of Joe Louis or Mountain Man Dean would jump out at her and want to fight she would run. But is it was somebody within twenty pounds her weight she would give him a good sock and go right on.
The nights were wonderful, and she didn’t have time to think about such things as being scared. Whenever she was in the dark she thought about music. While she walked along the streets she would sing to herself. And she felt like the whole town listened without knowing it was Mick Kelly."

"At last he put away his mandolin and rocked slowly in the darkness. Death. Sometimes he could almost feel it in the room with him. He rocked to and fro in the chair. What did he understand? Nothing. Where was he headed? Nowhere. What did he want? To know. What? A meaning. Why? A riddle."

Waste of (internet) space

I remember finding pro-anorexia sites when I was high school. Annie mentioned it recently as we were discussing adolescent girls over ‘Reviving Ophelia’. I had the same reaction to it then as I have now. And then though it’s entirely not helpful, I’d really like to dip them in butter and throw them to the bulldaggas.

I was painfully reminded of a physical activity I hate more than running, my least favorite activity. I got persuaded to stay for the kick boxing workout after jiu jitsu class which was all well and good…until they began doing rotations between roundhouse kicking a bag and jumping rope. I loath jump rope. I ended up leaving half was through that section of the work out I was so disgusted.

John and Jeanne are engaged! The odd thing was that as I was driving up to see Jeanne, I happened to be thinking of Johnnies who have got married to one another (not tutor-tutor or tutor-student though) and they popped into my head as a couple that could and should get married. Besides, like so many married couples their names both start with the same letter.

One of my particular pleasures here in Fe is to stick my head out into the monsoon rains and only my head. The rain trickle down my face. My skin heats up the droplets of water. And yeah it looks particularly senseless.

I should really figure out exactly who my neighbors are. Some folks next door or maybe down the way seem to be having an impromptu family dance party. The marriachi music suddenly fanfares up and they shout and clap along for a single song and then it dies down.

At least I finally met the cat next door. He’s very vocal and gregarious, polydactal, gray and white coat, and named Fir.

Walking to and from work again, I’m making an effort to learn the short cuts and detours. I got stopped by Hotrod who was tagging along for a ride in the front of a cop cruiser, I dipping into the Cowgirl to change into uniform and I used Pete’s digital for all kind of photography or anything at all that caught my eye as well as reference pictures.
On the way home after work the monsoon was past and everything was still wet. I walked briskly and dreamily to the places were I needed to do my errands then home again. By the time I got home I had been so absorbed with sensations and experiences along the way I just stood staring at the new house from across the street. It was as if I’d nearly forgotten who I was or at least all the non-essential things we think make us individuals. I had to remember why I was even going home in the first place, and what I would do once I got in that house that was suppose to be my home.
