Sitting in class… they’re arguing around me. The argument? Why 11s can’t leave the cafe during spares. Of course no one wants to accept that it’s illegal, they want to fight the point.

Lenti’s argument: Your ability to make logical decisions isn’t developed enough to look at logical implications of a situation and not just the emotions you feel regarding the situation.

Half of the class’ argument: What’s the difference between us and the 12s? We’re the same students. If you say that there is a whole year between us and the 12s for development to occur, but shouldn’t we get credit for the tears of development between us and the 9s and 10s? We’re not childish, we just want freedom and to have fun.

The other half’s silence: She’s telling you that you don’t think logically and that you’re too emotional to make decisions and you’re responding with pure emotion and not thinking about the implications of even your words. Can you not see that you’re proving her right?

unless your spare is at the end of the day, where are you going to go? Timmies? On my spares i stay in school anyways.

I think the real issues are:

1.) They're responsible for you, so if you leave and cause havoc they get sued to shit.
2.) The students would most likely just prefer to have the option to leave if it suited them.

it's the fact that they're forced into something that makes them want to rebel. when i was in grade 11, if i had a last period spare, i just called my mom and asked her if i could leave. it's that simple. if you really want to leave, go call your parents. you do that, it's not their fault if you wreak havoc, it's your parents, so they could care less.

Biff

By spare I mean "supervised study period", you guys get subs and never study periods. I know that... When we have a spare the 11s are supposed to stay in the school, but that doesn't always hold and isn't inforced very strictly.

*hugs*

you have to stay in the caf during spares? that really sucks. we're allowed to do whatever the hell we want during spares, it doesn't make a difference to the staff.

but about the whole idea of 11s having to stay when the 12s don't, the same sort of thing happens here. for the 12s, when a teacher is absent, they have no class. the 11s will get a sub, which is what the 12s in my last period class love to rub in out faces. i just think the added priviledges are something that comes with time; something you can take advantage of when you get there.

well it personally doesn't bother me bc I leave neways, honestly though, Lenti is sort of right at the same time, there are lots of the gr 11s that are just as mature as the gr 9+10s , for example Justin Mazotti, and countless others, but assuming that the gr 12s are ne better is just hilarious, most of them are worse than/ are a big influence on everyone else in the school, my opinion, there should be forms that parents should have to sign for ne of the students under 18 to sign releasing the school from responsibility and alblowing the students to leave during supervised study periods

Ummm, well I can see why some are upset, and they want freedom to leave.... but I see the administrations side as well. It would be a safety issue, plus the fact of where exactly are they going to go? Most of them wouldn't have their G2 yet, never mind whether they have a car. I dunno, I usually see both views, but I agree with the silent group. I had a schedule spare last year in Gr. 11, and I had no problem staying at school... but yeah
