Neil Gorman's TECH Weblog

Neil Gorman is the webmaster of comicology.net , he just finished student teaching a high school history course. However, now as he looks for a teaching, he is working in tech support (again) to keep the bills paied. This blog is a place where Neil will keep a record of what he does to try and fix problems as he works as a level two networking tech. Neil hopes that maybe this info may be useful to people who are having networking problems.

Product: F5D7230-4
Problem: Can't get online.

Two computers [desktop and laptop] running win XP
One wired one wireless.

1. Customer had his wired computer connected to his modem, and his wireless connected to the router. I had the customer connect things in this way...

Wall to Modem, to router, to computers.

2. Had the customer restart both computers. The wired computer got online with no problem, and the wireless computer got online as well.

things are changing around here.

OK, I've started a new blog that will be my kind of anything goes blog. You can get to it by clicking here.

However, I really don't want to just let this blog die. Why? Well I just really dig the weblog system (because it is so damn easy to use) and I have put enough time and energy into it (this blog) that I have just developed a sort of attachment to it. I know that might be un-healthy, but whatever.

Anyway, thisis going to be my tech support blog. Which is to say that it may be really depressing (doing tech support is depressing so I don't think a record of doing that depressing job will be anything but depressing.) My hope is that the record of stuff that I do to fix problems will help people may help other people fix their own network problems. I realize that this is rather unlikely because no one ever reads this damn thing, but I'm an idalist so what the fuck.

So to sum things up here.
1. My comicbook website comicology.net is still active.
2. My new random stuff, anything goes, what the hell ever, blog is now active. Who the hell knows what will happen with that thing.
3. This blog is now a tech blog, for reasons listed above.

I'm out!

I just did a google search for Neil Gorman and this site is the first thing on the list. Personaly I think that is kida cool. Very odd, but cool none the less.

Why do I think it's so odd? Well no one seems to vist this thing very often (I'm saying this because I almost NEVER have any comments on the any of the posts.)

License renewed

I'm off to hell on earth (the DMV or as we call it here in Illinois the "Secretary of State" office) to get my drivers license renewed.

So I will be hanging out with sad bastards for the next few hours (yes it will take that long) wish me luck.

However, before I go to hell I wanted to tell any one who might give a rat's ass that the new Brian Green book The Fabric of the Cosmos is damn good thus far (I'm only on chapter 2 so I really don't know that much about this book. None the less the first chapter and a half were all kinds of kick ass.)

That be it for now 'mon, you be havin yo self a good day. (That was my attempt at a Jamican accent.)

Out.

another resume idea..

I think that people should say what their "weapon of choice" would be.

Ya know I think that you should also say "If I could have any superpower it would be X because Y."

That is some important info yo.

That is it for now.

Anyway, I think that this is really worth checking out
http://www.jewishjournal.com/home/preview.php?id=11828

It is a cool review of Joe Kubert's graphic novel Yossel about Jewish resistance during the Holocaust.

If any one cares (thats funny considering that no one reads this blog) I'm going to buy this if I can find it.

I also sw thta Heartbread Soup Stories is out in hard cover now, if I can find this, and I have the money I will pick it up as well

If you want to read a review of HSS than here is a link fo you.

Larsen new Publisher of Image Comics

Well I found out that
Eric Larsen will be taking the new publisher of Image. He will be replacing Jim Valentino, CBR says that Balentino is "stepping aside." som I'm thinking that this was something that he chose to do.

Newsarama also covered the story, but I'm sure that you will want to see the storys for you self, so here are the links...

Here is the CBR story
http://www.comicbookresources.com/news/newsitem.cgi?id=3306
Here is the Newsarama story
http://newsarama.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=9450

Someone over at the Bendis message board (which is part of the Image Comics Community) said

"I dont know what to make of this quite yet. [but]
From what I've read Erik is planning to get more into the mainstream spandex type books. I dont know how I feel about that. and it seems that Top Cow will be pushed more, which persoanlly I am NOT a fan of Top Cow's line.

Hopefully they will still be able to offer new and exciting ideas, and not just more superheroes."

Another board memeber said "These are the image books I buy. Powers, Invincible, PvP, Desprate Times, Hawiaian Dick. Yeah, not too excited about this new direction."

Larsen him self replyed to this post and said: "Those are books I'd buy too. I'd toss Jack Staff, Liberty Meadows and quite a few others in there as well. I think you ought to at least SEE what's coming up before you judge me TOO harshly.

And that Newsarama article is nonsense."

Anyway here is the link to the Bendis board thread.

changin the url

the url fro this blog sucks. I have been thinking of changing it. Lets see if it ever happens.

I want to keep the blog here at we::blog but I'm not sure that th url works out for what I want.

Then again I do have a link to it from my sites main page...

(thinking about it)

Still don't know. not that anyone reads this thing, but I feel like seeing my self type here, so...

The URL might change if I change it I will be sure to make sure that the main comicology site links to the new blog and not this one.

ya, thats it for now.

still slow

nothing seems to be going down today, I'm gunn call it quits for a bit and take a nap.

lack of comments.

the lack of comments here on the blog, and on the comicology site have made me spend some time attemping to advertise the site.

I'm also thinking that if i get more involved in the "blog community" than I might get some more people stoping by. I figure that I'm all ready active in the on line comic book geek community so the blog community must be what I have to focus on.

Dman I want people to visit my site.

ohhh my god is is so slow today

well I guss that should be expected after the news from yesterday...

For any one who may have missed the news from yesterday I'll recap: three pices of major news.

1. warren ellis may take over UFF from Bendis and Millar after issue 6.

2. kevin smith will write and direct "the green hornet" moive. so much for him finishing the storys for his Marvel comic books.

3. mark millar has been asked to write a big super hero movie by a big movie company. (don't know which super hero, or which big company.) people are guessing that the movie will be wanted, or the wolvie movie that will be made after X3.

you see how bad this is, I'm talking about yesterdays news today. this sucks.

I need a nap, but I'm at school so that is not gunna happen.

resume idea...

I see that Mike says that he is a "Vagrant Technomage" on his web page

http://www.thingsleftbehind.com/tlb/

I think I more people should put that on their resumes. Seriously, think about it. Everyone tells me that the goal of a resume is to get the attention of the person who is reading it. "Vagrant Technomage" whould sure as hell get my attention. I hear that it is also the goal of a resume to set you apart from (in a good way) the other people who are applying for the job. How many other "vagrant technomages" can there be? I'd say not many.

So remember this the next time your writing your resume.

http://www.lessig.org/blog/ great blog of a really cool Lawyer, really he is cool, and he is a lawhyer. Strane I know but true.
http://www.kevinsites.net/ blog of a reporter in Iraq right now.
http://iranfilter.com/ a cool blog with info on Iran, which I think is important.
http://www.danchan.com/weblog a cool open weblog.

Thats al I got for now. I will post some more as I find them. Enjoy.

Millar to write a film?

I've been seeing some stuff that is saying that comic writer Mark Millar has been asked by "someone" (don't know who/what that "someone" is) to write a film script based on Wanted #2.

Here are some links

Got the Pulse

was able to get it. go me.

Also read it, I never read Alias so I don't think that I get everything that is going on.

I think the end should have been a cliff hanger, but I was just thinking "who the hell is that?" to my self. Guess I should have read Alias. Live and Learn.

I'll hit up the Bendis board and ask for some answers.
