Blogstats

I haven't gotten much feedback from beta-testers, so I'm acting on the assumption that no news is good news and launching Blogstats.

Several people have asked for a way to find out their rankings. The Top Weblogs page only lists the Top 100 by Citations and by Daypop Score and the RSS of the Top Weblogs page only lists the Top 1000. So if you're not in the Top 1000 weblogs, Blogstats is the place to go to find out your rank.

The most interesting part of Blogstats, in my opinion, is the Similar Blogs part which lists blogs which are similar in content to yours. This helps you find more like-minded bloggers. Right now, I'm only generating similarity data for the Top 1000 blogs + Daypop Sponsors' blogs. This is because of the limited computational resources that Daypop has. But I'm working on making the algorithm more efficient so that all blogs can get similarity data. Just don't let that stop you from donating! ;-P In the meantime, you should be able to find some good reads by checking out the Similar Blogs to ones you like that are in the Top 1000.

Becoming a Daypop sponsor means you'll be able to track your stats using a news aggregator. For some of you that may be reason enough to become a donor, but I suspect for most of you it isn't. I want to make the distinction that donating and becoming a sponsor is less of a pay-service and more of an NPR type funding, where sponsors help keep the service running for the benefit of everyone. The equivalent of the cool CDs that NPR sends out to their donors are the RSS feeds for your blog statistics. Just a little something extra in return.

You might notice that Blogstats takes a couple seconds and this is because it's doing the equivalent of about 5 searches one after another.

Happy ego-surfing!
