Woman of Lebanese Descent Captures American School Teacher

Captured his heart, that is. Sorry, couldn't help having fun with that one!

Guitta, my brother David's better half, has entered the world of blogging and we (the royal "we", since I speak for the rest of the world) couldn't be happier. Welcome, Guitta, I am looking forward to reading your blog and leaving comments full of wit and wisdom.

The name of Guitta's blog is Growing Hope and her tagline reads "the ever-changing musings matched with the everlasting philosophy of a newly married and hopeless sinner."

Fred vs. Al

On Paul Harvey today, Fred Thompson demonstrates a charismatic brilliance that can only strengthen the "draft Fred" rallying cry. With one fell swoop, he dismantles Gore's Congressional testimony:

Some people think that our planet is suffering from a fever. Now scientists are telling us that Mars is experiencing its own planetary warming: Martian warming. It seems scientists have noticed recently that quite a few planets in our solar system seem to be heating up a bit, including Pluto.

Read the rest here or, better yet, listen here.

With Sincerest Apologies to Mr. Foxworthy

You know that you've got a houseful of little kids when...

...you take a shower and instead of worrying about slipping hazards, you worry about tripping hazards (toys!)

...you can accidentally forget milk or eggs at the grocery store, but if you forget toilet paper, we're heading back to Wal-Mart!

...the bare mention of going to Wal-Mart creates a "buzz" of excitement around the house.

...the amount of time that your house stays clean is directly proportional to the amount of time that your kids stay outside.

...the words "stinky diaper" or "Dad, I just threw up on the floor" don't even make you bat an eyelid.

and lastly,

...you have to finish this post prematurely because you've finally figured out after all this time that you aren't in college anymore and sleep doesn't grow on trees.

Blanco a No-Go?

Kathleen Blanco has apparently decided not to run for governor (of Louisiana). From the Times-Picayune today:

Beset by complaints about the state's slow recovery from the 2005 hurricanes, languishing in the polls and facing pressure from her own party, Democratic Gov. Kathleen Blanco announced Tuesday that she will not seek reelection this year.

Blanco, the first woman to be elected governor of the state, made the announcement in a televised address from the Governor's Mansion shortly after 6 p.m. Stepping away from the podium to hug family and friends, she did not immediately take questions.

“Today, I am announcing that, after much thought and prayer, I have decided not to seek re-election as your governor,” Blanco said.

Although she is six weeks away from a major legislative session and still has nine months remaining in her term, Blanco said she was announcing her decision early to remove some of the politics and partisanship in the debate over recovery.

"I am doing this so we can work without interference from election year politics,” she said.

And, no doubt, the Democratic party has realized that Jindal is riding a wave of popularity against the fiasco of her Katrina management. But wait, will the Dems pull a last minute bait and switch?

The stunning decision opens the door for former U.S. Sen. John Breaux, who has flirted with getting into the race but told fellow Democrats he would not run in the Oct. 20 primary unless Blanco decided to step aside.

Frum: The Pro-Wilson Media's Strange Logic

David Frum accurately demonstrates the inconsistentencies of the pro-Joe Wilson press:

It is never easy to keep up with the times. For those NRO readers who would like to be thought forward thinking and progressive, here's a short cheat sheet.

You must think that lying about Joe Wilson is morally reprehensible.
You mustn't think that lying by Joe Wilson is morally reprehensible.

You must believe in a conspiracy to blow Plame's cover.

You musn't believe that the conspiracy included the man who actually did blow Plame's cover.

It Would Take a Miracle...

The LSU Tigers men's college basketball season has been the poster child for disappointment and unfulfilled expectations, being ranked as high as No. 4 in the polls. Now, at the end of the season, the Tigers are unranked nationally and have a dismal 5-11 record in the SEC.

Although things look grim on the postseason front, there is a slim ray of hope for the Tigers to make it postseason play (and I ain't talking NIT either, baby). The only way the Tigers can get in the NCAA Conference playoffs is to win the SEC Championship Tourney, no small feat. This means winning four games in four days.

Yesterday, they won an overtime thriller against No. 25 Tennessee. Tonight, the Tigers take on the Ole Miss Rebels at 7:45 p.m., so we'll see if it's the season of miracles and second chances for LSU.

UPDATE: Everything I just said, ... uh, nevermind.
