This is a weblogging system provided by [danchan]. Weblogging is easy and fun! You've got opinions. Make them heard. What can you do with a weblog? Set up a daily journal. A daily rant? A weekly column. A message board for friends. A help line. A review site. Whatever. How do I make myself heard? This weblogging system gives you the ability to post your comments, easily, using any standard browser. No special software to download, nothing to ftp. You can customize the appearance of your site through the use of an HTML template which is just standard HTML plus a couple extra "tags". If you take a look at how the template system works, you'll realize that it is both simple and super-flexible. Comment on other people's weblogs! The great feature of this weblogging service is that other members can comment on your posts! You, in turn, can comment on their comments. Active participation is part of what makes a weblog interesting. Easy syndication! In just one easy step you can syndicate your weblog so that other sites can reprint your posts! You can use this feature to run multiple weblogs on the same page, host your weblog page using your own domain, or add the ability to comment on pages of any site! Why this service? A couple of months ago I set up [danchan] and modeled it after Slashdot which was the only "weblog" that I knew about at the time. This meant that members could leave comments on any of my daily news items or any of the feature articles. Then I realized, it would be pretty simple to create a weblogging service that would allow anyone to set up a site like Slashdot or danchan. A service that allowed people to set up a site where they could write down their thoughts for the day and have others comments on them. Searching around the web, I discovered that far from being a new idea, weblogging had been around forever (in Internet time) and that there were three huge services already offering free weblogging: Blogger, Pitas and Diaryland. What was still lacking in all these services is the ability to comment. we::blog has this feature. I also added the ability to easily syndicate your weblog, which means you can include weblog content remotely. This has plenty of applications, one of which is adding comments to non-weblog pages on the web. You've got a site with your travel pictures? You can add comments to those pages and your friends can make fun of your Hawaiian shirt and farmer's tan. If you don't want comments on your weblog entries, fine. You can turn them off. The system is flexible. You can do almost anything. And if you can't, I'll try and make it so that you can. Check it out now... Just check out what other people are doing to get an idea of the power of weblogging. Weblogging with comments. |
