buka among friends

Wow. What an eventful day.

I was at work as usual today. Then at around 1:00pm, there was a partial blackout, and our network went down. Our terminals were still working, but we couldn't do any real work since our XML files are all based upon DTDs hosted somewhere out there on the Sun Java and Apache websites.

We waited for about two hours, and then my seniors decided that we were better off going home, rather than sitting around twiddling our thumbs all day.

I took this opportunity to visit Chomel. After spending an hour with her, I tried to leave, but she jumped into my car and refused to get out, resolutely plonking her fluffy bum onto the floor. Aww. She only relented when Romy agreed to take her for a walk.

Back home, I put on my new funky pink stripey shirt from Metro Jaya and my not-so-new funky stripey jeans (Woohoo!) and hopped onto the Monorail for dinner with Nat and Amiyouni.

Nat (Cheong, not Abdullah) is doing Technical Support at Vistana Hotel up in Titiwangsa, and she is entitled to a 50% discount on the buka puasa buffet there. Hence, tonight's gorgefest. Neither she nor Amiyouni were at the reunion in Bangsar, so this was the first time I was seeing them in person since before Australia.

Nat wants to have another buka puasa get-together, except next time, it'll be at the Mariott (she gets a discount there too ). I told her to count me in. Amiyouni can't make it because he's going back to the Maldives for Hari Raya. Hopefully we can get a few more people to join in. After all, the more the merrier.

PS: That long-awaited moment has finally arrived. DBP's Sastera E-Comics are up and running on KaryaNet. And best of all, they're free! I originally thought that they were going to charge a subscription fee, and I was ready and willing to fork over the cash. But this is even better.

I first got a whiff of them at the Anime & Manga Exhibition at the Balai Seni Lukis a few months back. The artwork was (and still is) stunning. So far, they've got Hikayat Hang Tuah, Merong Mahawangsa and Syah Mardan. Behold.

guilty pleasures

Forgive me Father, for I have sinned. It has been a reaaally long time since my last confession.

I am an idolator.

A Malaysian Idolator, to be precise. Which is surprising to say the least, since I only bore a fleeting interest in American Idol. I couldn't even stand last year's Australian Idol, with that horrible, horrible Shannon guy screeching his way into the finals. Bleargh!

This year though, I have dived head-first into the ongoing Idol-mania. I've been backing Dina and Jac quite consistently, and now both of them are through to the finals. Jac is an obvious choice, whereas Dina's superb rendition of that Saloma song way back in the Blast to the Past episode has kept me loyal to her up to this very day.

I can't understand why everyone was so busy bemoaning Nikki's fate though. To me, she sounded a bit off. Andrew was a leng chai inanimate object. Saiful and that Elvis guy gave me the creeps. I liked Syima and Rydee though. But Syima never made it past the Top 33, and Rydee was kicked out early on. I must admit that I got quite emo when I saw everyone's display of affection and sympathy at her elimination.

The finals are on this weekend at Genting. I can't wait. But I don't think I'm going to vote this time. It would be an exercise in futility, since I would probably vote for both of them. I'm just glad that both of my faves made it.
