satu hari di hari raya

poor jendela has so much to whisper but doesnt have the time to do it. back in my previous job, i have a lot of time to write in my blog but i dont really have anything interesting to write about but now, it is the other way around. another of life's little irony.

i have always regarded hari raya be it aidilfitri or aidiladha as magical, even at my age. the month of ramadhan too. there is something special about the months that makes me giddy and act like a child who couldnt wait for the hari raya to come. the takbir was really soothing. our raya menu has always been the same since i can remember - nasi himpit, rendang, ayam masak lemak cili api, sambal goreng and kuah kacang but i wasnt complaining.

so when a friend told me that hari raya was just the same to her like any other day, i was quite taken aback by her statement. couldnt she feel the magic especially on raya eve when people went from house to house for takbir. every year, my house was the last port for the takbir group because of the location. my brother always claimed he started the sup tulang trend and then the neighbours tiru. hahaha...

this year we visited our father's grave on the eve of raya.

and the first day of raya was absolutely grand. chaotic in the morning, madness in the afternoon and night. imagine 48 of us in one house at one time, not to mention the guests. all 29 nephews and nieces and counting. hahaha...a week before raya, i learned to play raya songs. so, i played the raya songs with my old guitar for my little audience. hehehe....i brought kaka and gendon back and both of them really love the attention. so very popular the cats.

to tell you the truth, i had a fever but it failed to deter me from enjoying my raya. and then, the visits to each other's house. it's only my bros' and sister's house but it was great. and then the muse came all the way from kl on the third day of raya. i practically begged my brother to cook his delicious nasi minyak, and he did. aha the power of being the anak bongsu, even a very old anak bongsu. ;-) anyway, everything was magical to me during the whole month of syawal. even though our family gathers regularly, it wasnt the same with hari raya. people, cant you feel the magic?
