A Letter To Anfield
Dear Mr. Benitez,
I have been meaning to write this letter to you since the Liverpool-Portsmouth game two weeks ago. I believe that if I didn’t write this letter I will get into a rage and when I am in a rage, I will curse and throw insults at you and in turn will lessen my pahala puasa.
Really sir, for someone so smart you can be stupid sometimes. I am not sure you know what you are doing anymore with my beloved team. As a person born under the sign of Pisces, I am ruled by my emotions which sometimes brought me into trouble but what is your excuse. I don’t think you are a Pisces. No Pisces can be this stupid.
Perhaps you are ruled by your huge ego which is why you continue on to stick with your half baked plan of rotation. Hello! Liverpool don’t have enough quality players for you to have a rotation in the first place. I cant believe the reason you gave after that stupid draw with Birmingham City last Saturday. Did you know that I only pray 8 rakaat tarawih instead of 21 on that day just because I wanted to watch the game and what a stupid game it was.
How could you say that quote” I have four strikers, I must play all of them…” . What the hell? I cant be believe you can be this stupid. Rationally speaking, if I am the manager and I just bought a record breaking 25 million pound super striker who is a goal machine, I will never ever leave him on the bench like you did over the last two games. This is Fernando “El Nino” Torres we are talking about. The never say die attitude that the kid possess couple with skills and pace that we have witnessed so far would have convinced anyone with half a brain in his or her head that Torres should be there on the field for full 90 minutes.
And if you know how to do your calculation, you must have realized that Torres has scored three goals in the premiership while the bloody Dirk Kuyt has not scored a bloody goal so far this season and yet you put Torres on the bench and played Kuyt for 90 minutes. Kau ni bangang ke apa? Ya Allah! Sabarkanlah aku ni.
If I am the manager, I would think that my best striker will be the bench mark for the other three strikers. It is the other three strikers who have to compete for a place on the field and not your best striker. I have had it with you. I don’t know how to get rid of this frustration of watching you destroying my beloved team just to feed your ego and what a huge ego it was. You think your decision is correct but we the fans knew better. We are not blind or stupid. We can see how poor Liverpool played last Saturday. Letting Torres came in 20 minutes before the final whistle is the ultimate insult to the player, in my humble opinion. Even though we can see that in such a short time, he made an impact to the team but he was not a superhero. You know football is a game of chance. If you let him played for full 90 minutes, he would probably have scored. But because of your stupid ego, we would never know would we?
And why the hell did you take out Ryan Babel instead of the useless Dirk Kuyt? Why????? He was the most lively and creative player on the field and you took him out. You brought in two other strikers and you took out the only player who could feed the strikers well. What’s wrong with you? Do you think people like us watch football just for the sake of watching, is that it? Do you think that we, the lowly fans don’t think about formation, strategy and tactic when we watched our team played. You maybe the person whose opinion matters the most to the players and the shareholders but that doesn’t mean that you are always correct.
You know what sir, you have Liverpool started the season running but now instead of increasing the speed you went back to crawling, if I may say. Please just look at Arsenal and Man United and learn from them. You give all of us fans a false security and false hope that Liverpool will be a force to reckon with this season in the domestic league.
And Sir, I don’t give a damn if you managed to make Liverpool win 10 Champions league titles because it wont mean a thing if you couldn’t even win in your own league. Do you think people will respect Liverpool more if we win another Champions league? Well, you are wrong sir, deadly wrong.
There are times I felt like abandoning this team that I love so much. Out of frustration last Saturday, I lashed out to just about anybody who sat beside me during the game, did you know that?
I don’t know what else I can write in this letter that will make a difference but I am sure my rant won’t even make a dent in your huge ego. Let me tell you one thing, you are expandable. Just ask Mourinho and he will tell you. Shouldn’t you think that the game is far more important than your ego?
So Liverpool has a beautiful history but the history is running out already. Nobody cares that Liverpool had won the most premiere league titles in the English league anymore. All the Liverpool fans care about is for Liverpool to create a new history. A new beginning fill with success and beautiful games but I guess that will remain a wishful thinking.
So, sir, please, please, get rid of the goatee and the ego. I guess that is all for now. I would love to talk more about this matter but I am afraid it is just a waste of my time. Before I conclude, I want to share with you a quote from my favourite French author, Francois de La Rochefoucauld who once said “Few people have the wisdom to prefer the criticism that would do them good, to the praise that deceives them.
