lyon vs milan - first leg

i havent written about football for so long, i felt a little rusty. the passion still there and football is still number one in my list. i just didnt have time to write about it. and nobody likes football in my department and it drives me crazy cause i cant discuss about matches with them. i cant access the forum sites because all of them had been blocked by the admin. sheesh! well, whatever, nevermind

a lot of football fans including yours truly couldnt wait to see the match between milan and lyon which pundits had predicted would be a mouthwatering game. how wrong they were. judging from last night's game, there was nothing worth to shout about. it's a bloody stalemate game.

for the first 15 minutes, i was so proud of milan. as expected, they played agressively. lyon back four didnt even have time to blink as milan forwards and wingers continued their barrage of attacks. seriously, i was so proud of them and maybe, well maybe milan could rise from the ashes again like the phoenix, so to speak. but to my disappointment, the fire had suddenly gone out of the milan players as if some magical hands had douse buckets of water on them. i didnt understand why. lyon look much more determine to win the match even though they were playing at home. milan's attitude reminded me of bayern's lack of passion a few years back after they won the champions league after beating valencia in a nail-biting, heart-stopping penalty. i couldnt remember the year but i remember that game.

nonetheless, milan couldnt afford to lose as without the champions league trophy, they will be trophyless this season. no scudetto, no italian cup, no nothing. they had squandered a few chances in mid season and was left trailing the old lady by 8 points. there's no chance in heaven they can catch juve to emerge champions of serie a. budus betul.

milan didnt look hungry enough to win the game. there's no passion, no flow, no nothing. the fact that milan midfields being run ragged by the like of tiago (the chelsea reject) and wiltord (dendam aku kat dia for that last minute goal against italy in euro 2000 tak habis lagi) put the milan back four under pressure. it hurts looking at nesta strectched almost to his limit trying to protect milan's goal from the hungry lyon. and i couldnt help but admired his lovely tackling skills, very-very clean and accurate.

anyway back to the game, i wish sheva wasnt such a selfish bastard cause if he were to pass that ball to gilardino, that young man would have scored but instead sheva kicked straight towards the goalkeeper. there's a place and time for personal glory, mr shevchenko. if you're so brilliant, why didnt you at least loped the ball above the goalie instead of kicking straight at him. stupido.

as the match continued in the second half, milan back four suddenly turned sluggish and careless, except for nesta. they conceded too many freekicks outside the penalty box, what the hell were they thinking. i tell you, milan was so lucky that juninho wasnt able to play last night otherwise, they would have to pay the price for their sloppiness in defending. have they watched juninho's free kicks? it was almost perfect.

bloody hell, the more i write about this game, the angrier i become. watching the game alone at 2.30 am wasnt such a good idea especially during midweek. i would like to apologise to the neighbours if their sleep were distrupted by my loud screams. even my cats refused to be in the same room with me during the match. gosh! i was so frustrated. lyon didnt give milan a chance to regroup at all as they continued their attacks until the last whistle blowed.

Pedretti's angled free-kick evaded everyone in a packed penalty box, forcing dida to make make a brilliant reaction save. i swore my heart stopped beating watching this scene.

Tiago almost broke the deadlock with eight minutes left, firing in a fierce long-range drive which Dida managed to stop. and i did pity him for getting that yellow card but what a stupid thing to do tiago and at stoppage time too. no wonder chelsea let you go.

anyway, the outcome of this tie is still finely balanced. There is
still all to play for for both teams. I am looking forward to another
hopefully a great game in the return leg.

And again,
May the team that play better win; and
May the team that pass this round go all the way!

forza milan! forza nesta!

to paraphrase a certain football columnist: "perhaps football is essentially absurd." that was probably the most perfect explanation for the liverpool vs arsenal's game. for the life of me, i couldnt understand what made gerrard did what he did in those dying minutes when the score was still 1-1.

and i thought werder bremen's goalkeeper made the biggest blunder last week but inthe end it was gerrard who made the grandmother of all blunders. i dont understand at all his reason for making the back pass. why, there was no pressure from the arsenal players and he had so much space to go forward but he decided to turn around and made a bloody back pass toward his goalkeeper. my heart broke, seriously. i was so emotional, my eyes filled with tears.

the scene reminded me of gerrard's own goal against chelsea in the carling cup one or two seasons ago. for all his talent and skill and untiring efforts to help his team winning games, he was always the one who would make a mistake that was costly. he has to overcome this panic attack of him before he destroyed the whole team. but at the same time, i believed that rafa's negative play had finally backfired.

why would you want to go into a game with a 1-nil or draw in your mind. i mean it's football, people demand a goal from your strikers. the reds' three strikers combined managed to shoot only one goal in 46 games. what kind of strikers were they? time and time again, rafa chose to play 4-5-1 instead of 4-4-2. what the bloody hell was he thinking? my heart bleed everytime crouch's shots went off target. what's the use of having midfielders who could cross timely and accurately when the striker is as useless as crouch?

perhaps liverpool's defence had crumbled a little bit by arsenal's fluid runnings and high tempo moves but the way the pundits said it as if liverpool didnt deserve to win the game at all. and these were the same pundits who kutuk arsenal just a month before. football fans do have short terms memory. sheesh! anyway, i wonder what would happen to the game if gerrard didnt decide to be generous with his opponent on that fateful sunday evening...
