New Gizmos

As we head into spring, things are getting more and more exciting for me. In fact, it's "reporting season" soon so for me that means a lot of late nights and hard work that I'll need to catch up on. I'll still try to do some reviews to at least keep this site somewhat "fresh".

I'm constantly thinking of new "gadgets" and things to buy. So what's on theVooner's mind? Well here are some of the things that are out there that I'm looking at.

First of all, the new Nikon D100 digital camera looks pretty amazing. It's not out yet, but I'll definitely be looking at when it comes out.

Pioneer, Sony, and Philips are all introducing newer (and usually cheaper) DVD-RW recorders. I still want a recordable DVD player so it's definitely an option.

I was also going to buy a new TV for my bedroom. I was so close to going out and buying the new Sony 32" Plasma screen. Just the perfect size for a bedroom. But, I watch way too much TV as it is and I'm not eager to give myself another excuse to watch more TV. So maybe that's out.

Lastly, I'm defintely in the market for another laptop. With Windows XP now out, I think it's time to get a new laptop with the new OS. Of course, I have so many brands and even more options to choose from. I was leaning towards another Dell, the massive 8100 because I can use some of my old peripherals (like my DVD drive) from my existing Inspiron. It's also got a great 15" UXGA screen and it's really easy to customize the system and know exactly how much you'll be paying. But I kinda want something new. I saw so many great laptops in Japan, although I'm not sure if they'd be available here and with all the options I want. Of course there's the same debate I have with danchan, whether the gorgeous iPod warrants me considering getting an iBook/G4! So many choices, so little time. But I've been way too busy to go to the computer mall and take a look at all the options. I'll be doing my homework though, and I'll let all of you know if I do decide to get something.

Greetings

Hey everyone. I'm back from visiting Tokyo during the Chinese New Year. It was a lot of fun. In truth, there wasn't that many new gadgets to talk about or to review. I found a few neat things which I will try to talk about. I actually bought this neat little camera called the D-Snap. It's an all-in-one Digital Camera/MPEG4 recorder/MP3 player/Voice recorder. I'll do a write-up soon.

I was also on a shopping spree when I got back and yeah, I bought ANOTHER mobile phone (the new Motorola V70). I'll review that too later after I've had a chance to use it. When I bought the V70, I found out that the problem I seemed to be having with the Ericsson T68 is common to all the T68s -- a so-called "oversensitive" microphone that tended to pick up too much background noise. Well it seems Ericsson has a fix for it where they will replace the mic if you give them the phone (though I don't know if they will do it for free). I'll have to go do that later. I still like the color display though and it's a shame this new Motorola doesn't. Anyway, hope everyone had a great holiday.
