theVooner is back!

I'm sorry guys, I know I've been dark for weeks now. Well, I took a vacation. I just needed to get away and clear my head. But I'm back now. And there's so much to talk about. On the mobile phone front, Sony and Nokia have new orders. So much so, I'm planning on getting the SE S700 pretty soon. I need to figure out a few things, but I thinks it's much better priced than the V3 so it's better. There's also some other new gadgets that I'll mention and a few new reviews on the way. Thanks for checking in.

Sony DSC-M1 Cybershot

At first, I thought it was a new mobile phone. It has the same "swivel" design as the S700 that I'm waiting for. The DSC-M1 is Sony's newest digital camera. It has an unusual "upright" design but the screen swivels out to unveil different buttons. Sony is touting some new advances which marries more digital photography with video functions. Of course, it's probably just a scam to get you to but more Sony Memory Stick Duo cards as the recording capabilities now require much more space. Still the design is pretty cool and I'll look at it as an upgrade to my T1.

Nokia 9300

Nokia has introduced the 9300 Communicator which I guess is a "lite" version of the 9500. Interestingly, I've seen many write-ups regarding a comparison to the Sony Ericsson 900/ upcoming 910. The popularity of the PDA/Smartphone has left Nokia well behind. Still, I'm not sure the 9300 is the right option.

Motorola Razr V3 mobile -- Mispriced IMHO

I had the chance to actually play and use the V3 today. They were doing a promotional launch to get people to pre-order the handset. I must say that it is one of the thinnest handsets I have seen. The screen is very bright and clear and I like it. I'm disappointed they didn't put in a mega-pixel camera though. But, the biggest disappointment of all was the price. For just over US$750 for the handset, I think Motorola is pricing themselves out of the market no matter how great the design. I suspect the price will fall relatively quickly as new designs from Nokia, Sony Ericsson, and many others will quickly arrive over the next few months. By that time, the V3 will no longer be "new" and Motorola might miss the chance to grab the market. Let's hope they pick up on that soon.

Innostream mobile phone

I was wondering around yesterday looking at new mobile handsets when I came across a Korean brand called Innostream. They have some very nice products and they are very well designed and have lots of the newest technologies. The one that particularly caught my eye was the new Innostream Inno 50. It's so new, it's not even on their website. Its really small, has a 1.3 Megapixel camera, 260k color screen, 65k color subscreen and lots of other nice features. I almost bought one right there. Except for the biggest problem, its only dual band. How stupid is that? All their other models were tri-band, but to save a buck, they made these dual band. Oh well. It's a nice phone though...

Sony DSC T3 - New digital camera

Sony released its digital camera update of the T1, the T3 recently. I kept hoping that it would have pretty apparent upgrades, like a 7.2 Megapixel engine or something. Instead, it's more of a cosmetic upgrade. The LCD sounds as if its better/brighter/sharper, though I'm pretty happy with the T1. Sony seems to have a habit of bringing out a new model even though I don't think it would really qualify as a "new" model. That's marketing/branding for you and I think it really works. If you don't already have a T1, the T3 may be your option. I love the size and the pictures are decent enough.

mini iPod inventory miscue is Sony's gain...

I have to again criticize Apple for its appalling mini iPod inventory issue that has led to other manufacturers like Sony taking advantage. Mini iPods are annoyingly "out of stock" that there is a tremendous amount of price gouging (premiums of up to US$50) and other scary tactics. Although I've had a standing order for a mini iPod, so far, that has yet to get fulfilled. Strangely enough everywhere I go, Sony is offering the new NW-HD1 where mini iPods are not available. Although in my opinion, the new Sony Network Walkman doesn't even appeal as much as the original iPod, just because the mini iPods are not available, the Sony's look appealing. 20GB, 30 hours of battery life, in a small package, looks pretty nice. Anyway, this is to reiterate my discontent with the poor production control of Apple to make mini iPods in such shortage. By the time they fix it, it will be out of style...
